The crossover to 149's is housed in a hollow aluminum plinth, Separate to the main cabinet, this offers benefits in that no interference can be picked up from the main drive units. Over the years different design crossovers where made, The last being made in 1991 and was made on a square circuit board.
The JR 149 Improved Crossover Type 24

The Jim Rogers type 24 as designed in 1991.
The Sound
JR149's and LS 35a speakers where often compared to each other. They have after all a lot in common. In some cases jr149,s have been preferred. There ability to go louder, and that bit more bass have won some people over. I myself do prefer 149's, but that is my own personal view, I would think in most cases the room as the most effect on sound, and in most situations both 149,s and LS 35a sound excellent even by today's standards when compared to more modern designs.
Note::::: The VR1 adjusts tweeter for preferred sound
